• Marionettes for all ages

They're not just for kids! Cashore Marionettes, founded by Joseph Cashore, has received national awards for creating shows that appeal to all ages. The Toronto Sun said, "Each creation is a slice of life, awe-inspiring in the minutest detail." Tickets for the April 8 Orange City show are available at OC Arts Council, Dove Bookstore and Northwestern theatre and music departments.
  • Highlights by Judy Thompson:  Artist Judy Thompson will teach two classes for adults in March, 2014. Her watercolor painting, Highlights, is part of the Artists' Showcase: The Orange City Arts Council's Regional Exhibition Feb. 14-22 at Northwestern's DeWitt Theatre.
  • Ensemble from Israel to perform Mediterranean music in Orange City

Israel's acclaimed ensemble, Baladino, will perform music of the Mediterranean in Orange City Friday, March 28 at 7:30 pm at the Northwestern College Chapel. Baladino embraces the old and new, playing music born from Jews exiled from Spain and Portugal, traveling through Turkey, Greece, Yugoslavia, Bulgaria and Morocco. They will also do coffeehouse shows on March 24 and March 26. The week-long residency is sponsored by the Orange City Arts Council.
  • Second City hits the City of Orange

The Second City Improv All-Stars are coming to Orange City Thursday, Feb. 13. An evening of hilarious improvisation will feature six actors from the legendary Second City.  The show begins at 7:00pm at the Unity Knight Center in Orange City, sponsored by the Orange City Arts Council, Iowa Arts Council and Community Bank. A workshop is also being offered, with limited admission. Call Orange City Arts, 707-4885.
  • Award-winning Le Vent du Nord of Québec to perform in Orange City

They've won two Junos – Canada's Grammy award. They've been named 'Artist of the Year' by the North American Folk Alliance. A school administrator from Bemidji said, "I expected great music but I have to say that I was absolutely blown out of the water. I can't  say enough good about this group!" They're Le Vent du Nord from Québec, performing in Orange City November 16 at 7:30pm at Unity's Knight Center.
  • Award-winning film screening and documentary film workshops scheduled

The award-winning film, The Fourth World, produced by Mark Volkers, pictured on left, will be shown at the Northwestern College Green on Thursday, August 29 at 8:30pm. The free screening, part of the 2013 OrangeRind Film Festival, is sponsored by Orange City Arts Council, Sioux Center Rec & Arts Council and Northwestern College. This fall – Sept. 7, Oct. 17 and Nov. 7 –  a series of three documentary film workshops will be taught by Volkers in Orange City and Sioux Center. Register by Sept. 3 for the reduced fee: $40 adults, $25 students.
  • Doreen's Jazz New Orleans to perform in Orange City

Yes, she wails on the clarinet. Yes, her vocals are equally amazing. Doreen Ketchens and her band have performed around the world, and on Friday, Sept. 27, Doreen's Jazz New Orleans will bring their blues, jazz, soul and gospel to Orange City. Sponsors are the Orange City Arts Council, Diamond Vogel Paint and Northwestern College.
  • Award-winning Ames Children's Choirs to perform in Orange City

The new Unity Christian Knight Center in Orange City is the place, and Saturday, Oct. 26 at 4:00pm, the time. Ames Children's Choirs will perform. The 60-minute program will conclude with a mass choir piece featuring 120 voices: the Ames choirs plus choirs from three local schools. The show is the first of the Orange City Arts Council's "Beyond Onstage" series.

  • Orange City's Got Talent!

It's the 4th of July in Windmill Park. Onstage Orange City will have no show Wednesday, July 3 – instead the old-fashioned Independence Day celebration begins at 3:00pm July 4. Pictured at last year's July 4th event are, left to right: Kassie Diehl, Abby Arnett, Maggie and Katie Kensak.

  • Orange City Area Community Band to perform, with director Carla Van Beek:

Opening its 2013 season is the Orange City Area Community Band, under the direction of Carla Van Beek. The second show in the summer's Onstage Orange City series, the band will play marches, ragtime favorites and an Armed Forces Salute. The concert is Wed. June 5 at 7 PM at Orange City's Windmill Park. Sponsor is Iowa State Bank.
  • Bottom Line Duo: 

The cello-bass duo from Seattle will perform at Northwestern's Chapel April 9 at 7:00pm, sponsored by the Orange City Arts Council, with assistance from Frank Vogel and the Northwestern music department. They're popular across the States. “Definitely a hit! The unusualness of the group is how much fun they are!” said Karen Hanan of Washington's Olympic Peninsula Memorial Day festival.
  • Festival Latino returns to Orange City: 
The 2012 Festival Latino in Orange City featured traditional dancers from Mexico. This year, on May 29, the featured entertainment is a mariachi band from Omaha, Luna y Sol. Other activities include mural painting, a piñata design contest, and Mexican food, all in Orange City’s Windmill Park, from 5-10 PM.
