Summer Art Classes 2011

Self-portraits: It's summer painting class, and Sarah Hummel (left) and Natasha Sampson are working on their self-portraits. The class, held at MOC-FV Elementary in Orange City, was sponsored by the Orange City Arts Council in conjunction with OC Parks & Recreation.
The Orange City Arts Council offers a variety of classes for youth and adults… sometimes painting and puppetry, other times acting, dance or photography, even a ‘memoir writing’ class for community members and residents of Landsmeer Ridge. Our summer 2011 classes are listed below.

Theatre Behind the Scenes

Location: Northwestern College DeWitt Theatre (use north door off Albany)
An introduction to making a scene! Design, that is. We’ll walk through the process of taking ideas from your imagination to a 3-dimensional scaled representation for the stage. Hands-on activities. (Class limited to 12)
Classes will meet Mondays and Wednesdays for 3 weeks – June 6 -24
Fee: $18
Grades 1, 2, 3: 1-2 p.m.
Grades 4, 5, 6: 2-3 p.m.
Painting
(Sponsored by Orange City Arts Council)
Instructor: Lisa Thvedt
Location: MOC-FV Orange City Elementary School (use west door)
Experiment with different painting media: watercolor and tempera/ acrylic. We’ll explore abstract and realism styles and also learn about some famous painters. Wear old clothes and be ready to be creative! (Class limited to 12)
Classes will meet Tuesdays and Thursdays for 3 weeks – June 6 – 24
Fee: $15
Grades 1, 2, 3: 3:30 to 4:30 p.m.
Grades 4, 5, 6: 4:45-5:45 p.m.
Ceramics

Instructor: Lisa Thvedt
Location: MOC-FV Orange City Elementary School (use west door)
Try your hand at ceramics! Create a variety of objects using clay and learn about the firing and glazing process. We’ll explore the techniques and creations of other potters, too. Wear old clothes and come ready to build with clay! (Class limited to 12)
Classes will meet Tuesdays and Thursdays for 3 weeks – June 27 – July 15
Fee: $18
Grades 1, 2, 3: 1 to 2 p.m.
Grades 4, 5, 6: 2:15 to 3:15 p.m.
Zip, Zap, Zog: Exploring Theatre
(Sponsored by Orange City Arts Council)
Location: Immanuel CRC, 1405 Albany Ave. NE (use south door)
You could be a sailor or a ship. Or maybe you could zip, zap, zog your way to a win. We’ll explore drama games and improvisations that will tap your imagination and help you devolop acting and speaking skills at the same time. (Class limited to 12)
Classes will once weekly for 3 weeks.

Kids in the Kitchen

Instructors: Ashley Wright and Sheila Van Den Brink
Location: MOC-FV High family & consumer sciences room (first four weeks), Dover Church kitchen (last two weeks)
A parent-child cooking class, for children age 4 and up, accompanied by an adult. Create simple exciting meals, make healthy snacks and decorate cookies – together! (Class limited to 12 children)
Classes will meet Wednesdays from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. for 6 weeks, June 6-July 15.
Fee: $20
