Summer Art Classes 2012

The Orange City Arts Council offers a variety of classes for youth and adults… sometimes painting and puppetry, other times acting, dance or photography, even a ‘memoir writing’ class for community members and residents of Landsmeer Ridge. Our summer 2012 classes are listed below.

Creating Portraits
Instructor: Lisa Thvedt
Location: MOC-FV Orange City Elementary School (use west door)

Artists have been creating portraits for hundreds of years and they are important in the world of art. It’s fun to see how different people capture an expression on someone’s face. Come try creating portraits in a variety of different mediums! Everyone can be successful! (Class limited to 12) Fee: $15
Classes meet Mondays and Wednesdays for 3 weeks, June 4- 20
Grades 1, 2, 3: 1:00 to 2:00 pm
Grades 4, 5, 6: 2:15 to 3:15 pm
Ceramics
Instructor: Lisa Thvedt
Location: MOC-FV Orange City Elementary School (use west door)

Try your hand at ceramics! Come build a few projects with us and learn about the hand-building and firing process. We’ll build a sculptural and functional piece. Wear old clothes and come ready to build with clay! (Class limited to 12) Fee: $18
Classes will meet Mondays and Wednesdays for 3 weeks, June 25 – July 11 (No class July 4, instead meet Tuesday July 3)

Zip, Zap, Zog: Exploring Theatre
Instructor: Lyric Morris
Location: Orange City Town Hall auditorium

You could be a sailor or a ship. Or maybe you could zip, zap, zog your way to a win. We’ll explore drama games and improvisations that will tap your imagination and help you develop acting and speaking skills at the same time. (Class limited to 12) Fee: $15

Exploring Theatre on Stage

Have you dreamed of stepping out from behind the curtain for your final bow as an audience wildly applauses? Join us in spending 3 weeks of theater classes learning about acting through games and exercises, and preparing a creative and fun show for your friends and family to enjoy! Show is July 12 at 2:30 pm. (Class limited to 12) Fee: $20
Classes meet Tuesdays and Thursdays for 3 weeks, June 26 – July 12.
Grades 4-8: 1:00 to 2:30 pm
Beginning Guitar

Location: Garden behind Little White Store (rain location: Orange City Town Hall community room)

Featuring two actors from Missoula Children’s Theatre and 50 local children.

Northwestern College DeWitt Theatre
The Missoula Children’s Theatre is coming to town again! Sign up to audition for Cinderella!
Auditions: Monday, July 16 – 10 a.m. to noon. Northwestern College DeWitt Theatre
Interested students, entering grades 1-12, may audition. Audition does NOT require a prepared song or reading, but students must attend entire audition. All children who audition MUST be available for rehearsal Monday through Friday, July 16-20, from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., and have Friday evening and Saturday afternoon free for the performances.
There are spots for 50 students. We’re very sorry, but there is no guarantee that everyone who auditions will be cast in the play.
Rehearsals: Monday, July 16 through Friday, July 20, from 10 a.m. to noon and 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. Students must attend when their part is scheduled. Some students will attend morning and afternoon rehearsals, and will need to bring a sack lunch.
Performances: Friday, July 20, 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, July 21, 2 p.m. at Northwestern College’s DeWitt Theatre. Admission will be: Adults $6; K-12 students $3; Family $18.
Workshops: Free, Northwestern’s DeWitt Theatre.
* Drama Quest. (Children entering grades 1-2) Use role-playing to develop self-esteem, increase communication skills & teach constructive group dynamics. So much fun, students won’t realize that they’re learning! Tues., July 17, 2:45 – 3:30 p.m.
* What If? (Children entering grades 3-5) Use your creativity in a performance environment. Encourages structure through imagination. Wed., July 18, 2:45 – 3:30 p.m.
* Mime Your Own Business. (Youth entering grades 6-12) Learn about the art of mime by realizing your own use of non-verbal communication and exploring mime technique & performance. Thurs., July 19, 2:45 – 3:30 p.m.
