The Siouxland reading series has become an Orange City Arts signature staple, led by veteran instructor Dr. James Schaap. Schaap leads students on a journey, both literal and figurative, through the Midwest and its rich literary tapestry. Discussion of an array of books celebrating Midwest life takes place in a variety of locations, from authors’ hometowns to characters’ backyards and many others besides.
Fourth in the series, Siouxland 104: The Dirty Thirties explores the lively personalities who endured the Dust Bowl, the Great Depression, and still managed to love and work and dream and laugh. And sometimes cry.
Schaap has selected a reading list that features authors who grew up just down the road and stories that take place in our own familiar neighborhoods.
