“Art washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life.”
– Pablo Picasso
Phyllis Van Gelder-Assistant
Phyllis Van Gelder has been involved with Orange City Arts for the past six years, and held the office of president of Orange City Arts for four of those. She’s chaired many other organizations and committees, one of which was in British Columbia—a committee that targeted troubled youth in the community. She’s been marvelously active in the Orange City community, starting a service learning program which linked fifth grade students and a local non-profit. She teaches talented and gifted, remedial, and language arts at Ireton Christian School. Her latest project has been to develop a service learning project between the Ireton students and Siouxland Habitat for Humanity. Phyllis’ love for the arts and people has led her to continue to be a part of Orange City Arts as an assistant to the director. Phyllis views art as a retreat for the soul.
