Orange City’s Got Talent! winners announced

ORANGE CITY – Amy Korver, Caleb Rohrer and Amanda Vander Stelt took the prizes in the second annual Orange City’s Got Talent!

 

The event was held Wednesday, June 27, in conjunction with the grand opening of Orange City’s Prairie Winds Event Center.

 

Emcees for the evening were Lois Estell and Laird Edman, and the show featured eight acts, including Northwestern student Alex Herrington, Summer Gollhofer of Le Mars, Kevin Miller of Sheldon and Bethany Dykstra and Barb Romkema, both of Orange City.

 

Vocalist Amy Korver, a student at Seattle Pacific University, took the top prize, with her rendition of “Batti, Batti” from Mozart’s opera Don Giovanni.

 

Caleb Rohrer, a student at MOC-Floyd Valley High, played Bartók’s Romanian Folk Dances on violin, and took second prize. Amanda Vander Stelt, also an MOC-FV student, sang a jazz piece, “Mr. Paganini.”

 

The three winners, all from Orange City, won cash prizes of $100, $75 and $50 respectively.

 

Jon Haverdink, last year’s winner, ended the evening with two cello pieces.

 

Talent show judges were Becky Donahue, Dan Mangold and Melody DeWit. Planning committee was Lois Estell, Mike Stokes, and Tom and Sharon Foughty. The Orange City Arts Council’s Onstage Orange City event was sponsored by Iowa State Bank and Quatro Composites™. Thanks to those who performed.
