The award-winning theatre department at Northwestern College is presenting Man of La Mancha February 14-15 and 20-22 at 7:30pm and Feb. 22 at 2:00pm at the DeWitt Theatre Arts Center.  Miguel de Cervantes wrote his masterpiece, Don Quixote, in the 17th century, telling the story of a “mad” knight with an “impossible dream”… and Dale Wasserman later created a non-musical play. The original 1965 Broadway production ran for 2,328 performances and won five Tony Awards, including Best Musical. Director at Northwestern is Jeff Barker.

THEME OF EXHIBITION: MAN OF LA MANCHA

Man of La Mancha features everything from madness to idealism, from absurd dreams to magnificent yearnings. It’s a humor-filled story of unquenchable spirit, undying valor, and the fine line between illusion and reality. One of the themes is seeing the world not as it is, but as it should be. Another is that the marginalized and “looney,” rather than the sanest of us, see the real truth of life. Artists are asked to submit their own interpretations of any of these themes. Include a short written statement for the jurors on the relationship of submitted art to the theme.

INSURANCE

The Orange City Arts Council will exercise all reasonable care in handling and hanging the art, and does have limited insurance coverage. However, the Orange City Arts Council assumes no responsibility for damage or loss to works submitted. Insurance is the responsibility of the exhibiting artist.
