Modern and ballet master classes were taught Friday, September 18 by award-winning instructor Margaret Huling, Ballet Mistress with Ballet Quad Cities. (see photo) Participants should have some previous dance experience. Class times are: 4-4:45pm for 6 to 9-year-olds; 5-6:15pm for students age 13 and older; 6:30-7:30pm for 10 to 12-year-olds. The master class was held at Robin’s School of Dance, 1602 First Ave SW in Sioux Center. Fee is $10.
Space is limited, so reserve a spot with Robin Van Es at firstname.lastname@example.org.
A free workshop, “Dance Me a Story; Exploring Literature through Ballet,” was held on Saturday, September 19: 10:00-11:00am at the Orange City Public Library and 12:30-1:30pm at the Sioux Center Public Library. Participants learned how the story inspires the choreographer and dancers, plus saw costumes, headpieces, props and special pointe shoes… which bring the story to life. An opportunity to dance to the well-known music of Peter Tchaikovsky had children and adults, boys and girls, enjoying this fun and creative way to dance a story! (see photo)
The presentation is part of Ballet Quad Cities’ outreach and education program. In 2014-‘15, Ballet Quad Cities offered 77 “Dance Me a Story” programs that reached more than 3,100 children and adults.
The Nutcracker is supported by the Arts Midwest Touring Fund, a program of Arts Midwest that is funded by the National Endowment for the Arts, with additional contributions from the Iowa Arts Council, the Crane Group & General Mills Foundation.
