ORANGE CITY – Jon Haverdink took first place at Orange City’s Got Talent!, the local talent show sponsored by the Orange City Arts Council. The show was held on a rainy June 9 in the Orange City town hall, in conjunction with the city’s community appreciation meal and the mayor’s announcement of Orange City’s new brand.
Haverdink, of Orange City, performed on the cello, accompanied by Laura Haverdink on keyboard. Second place went to A.J., Collin and David Korver of Eenwieler, the Orange City unicycle club – with their unicycle and juggling act. Third place was awarded to Luke Wohlgemuth of Alton, who sang “If I Were a Rich Man” from Fiddler on the Roof. Prizes were $100, $75 and $50.
Seven additional acts were featured Thursday evening, including break dancing, a country music vocalist and an original song. Judges were Harlan Van Oort, Patti Thayer and Bruce Muilenburg. The Orange City’s Got Talent committee was Lois Estell, Mike Stokes and Tom and Sharon Foughty. Emcees were Lois Estell and Laird Edman.
Sponsors of the Onstage Orange City event were Iowa State Bank and the Pizza Ranch Restaurant.
