ORANGE CITY – The latest mural in Orange City is finished, thanks to artist Mark Alsum.

And it was dedicated Thursday, June 13, in memory of former Orange City Arts Council board member Becky Kleinwolterink. She died in October 2012, during her term on the Arts Council board.

Arts Council president, Phyllis Van Gelder, honored Kleinwolterink in the form of a letter to her: “This mural is vibrant with color – you, Becky, were vibrant with new ideas. It gives the community beauty – your generous spirit gave happiness to so many. It warms our hearts with its soft strokes – your smile and kind words also warmed our hearts.”

Kleinwolterink was enthusiastic, generous, and hard-working, and it’s a privilege to be able to honor her memory, said Arts Council director Janine Calsbeek.

Alsum, from Orange City but soon to be Duluth MN, has completed two murals in town – the first in 2011 at Dove Christian Book Store, and now at the Orange City Floral Company and Siouxland Realty building. The Orange City Ambassadors were on hand at the dedication June 13, thanking Kevin Lammers of Orange City Floral, Mark Alsum, Diamond Vogel Paints, the City of Orange City betterment board and the Orange City Arts Council.
