ORANGE CITY – Four new board members have been added to the Orange City Arts Council. Joining the board are Susan Le Mahieu, Emily Stokes, and Jennifer Sabo, from Orange City. Also joining is Jim Schaap, from Alton. Le Mahieu is a music teacher at Unity Christian High School. Stokes and Sabo both work at Northwestern College; Stokes is an art professor and Sabo is an administrative assistant with Northwestern’s theatre department. Schaap is an author and retired Dordt College English professor.
Orange City Arts Council board members Greg Haverdink, Bob Hubbard, Lois Estell, and Peg Juffer, all from Orange City, have recently completed their terms and retired from the Council.
The council’s current members are: president Phyllis Van Gelder, vice president Mark Volkers, secretary Angela Kroeze Visser, treasurer Sandie Vant Hof, Cheryl Kugler, Gail Marincovich, Becky Donahue, Kimberly Seligman, and Richard Sowienski. All are from Orange City except for Vant Hof, who hails from Newkirk. Janine Calsbeek continues to serve as the Arts Council’s executive director.
This summer, the Council hosted their fourth year of Onstage Orange City, a weekly series of music, theatre and dance events held in Windmill Park.
This fall, the Arts Council looks forward to sponsoring Doreen’s Jazz on Sept. 27th, and Beyond Onstage, a series of five shows to be held at Unity Christian Knight Center and Northwestern College Christ Chapel. Season passes for Beyond Onstage are on sale through October 3rd. Currently, the Council is sponsoring documentary film workshops.
